It seems like there are two John Easterby Swales. Or at least two John Swales, both from England, and both in MI by 1880. Also, both by way of Canada. A student at a live-in school in 1841. Convicted of embezzlement 8 Mar 1851, in Yorkshire. Possibly died 14 Nov 1909, St. Bernards Hospital, Chicago, Cook County, IL Cause of death Pheumonia, with cardac complications. Buried 16 Nov 1909, Oakwoods Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, IL If this is he, then he lived in Chicago for 20 years prior to his death, though not found in the 1900 census.
