James Swales | |
Gender: Male Born: C.1803, Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, England Married: Susan Smith {Swales}, 18 Mar 1833, Clophill, Bedfordshire, England Census: 1841, Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, England [2400] Census: 1851, Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, England [2399] Census: 1861, Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, England [2398] Census: 1871, Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, England [2397] Died: C.Feb 1874, Bedfordshire, England Notes: living a few doors down from Leah Swales Asplin in 1871, but apparently no children, and no obvious relation. If this marriage is right, then it is a mystery where Susan is in 1841. There's a Susan Smith, with two small children in Ampthile, but this seems a stretch. It doesn't seem like they had children. In 1851, there is a neice with them, Mary Ann Herbert, age 11. She is likely the daughter of James and Sarah Herbert, who were married in Husborne Crawley, Bedfordshire, 19 Feb 1841. In 1841, James, Sarah and Mary Ann are in Simpson, Buckinghamshire. In 1858, Mary ann married Joseph Crossley, in Thurleigh, and lives next door to the Swales, with her husband and son Charles, 8 months. It seems possible or likely that Susan is the sister of James or Sarah Herbert (Sarah's maiden name also Herbert, it seems). In 1861 also, James is just two doors down from Benjamin Swales.
