Gender: Male Father: Ira West Jr. Mother: Julia M. West {Houghton Dewey West} Born: 14 Jan 1845, Orwell, Oswego County, NY Census: 1850, Orwell, Oswego County, NY [2274] Census: 1855, Orwell, Oswego County, NY [1938] Census: 1860, Sandy Creek, Oswego County, NY [2240] Died: 17 Jul 1864, Washington, DC Buried: After 17 Jul 1864, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington County, VA
Date and place of birth are from a Civil War Register, and are unconfirmed. However the other items from that register appear to be accurate. Based on the story about Ira walking to DC and arriving too late to see his son alive, best guess for Milo was that he enlisted as a Private on 22 Dec 1863 age 19, in Company M, 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiment New York. He died of disease on 14 Jul 1864, in Harewood Hospital, Washington D.C. Pension records show Sarah West, his wife requesting a pension on 9 Sep 1864. This is consistent with the story which said that he had married in Rome, NY just before enlisting. Company M was recruited from Oneida County near Rome. Distinct ancestors in tree: 27
