Some of the land he purchased from Hiram Eddy, the rest he got from the Pierrepont estate in 1844. All his children were born in Orwell in house he built. As soon as David's sons were old enough, he bought them each a drum and taught them to drum with either his brother Ira of Sandy Creek or Isaac Spink of Williamstown playing the fife. They Became known as the West Corps B. They furnished music for political rallies, pole raisings, and Sunday school picnics. All of David and Ada's children settled in Orwell except David Ernest, who operated a grocery store in Ricard, NY and Sandy Creek. |
