Alice was an unmarried waitress in London when Violet was born. My theory is that
 Alfred was the father, and after her birth, Violet went to live with Alfred and his parents
 later listed as a Swales.  It is possible Alice died around the time Violet was born, as I find
 no obvious records of her after that.
