His profession is listed as Coast Guard on Daniel & Elizabeth's marriage record and 1841 census. He was listed as 45 in 1841, but this is not consistent with other records. There is a James Russel, c. 20 Aug 1790, and another c. 15 Jul 1798, both in Canterbury, both with parents James Russell & Catherine. James' daughter Elizabeth named one daughter Catherine, so this seems a possiblity, even though the dates don't match well. There is a death record in the GRO for James Russell, age 77, December quarter of 1868, in Guisborough (vol.9d p.340). In 1861, living in Guisborough, he lists his age as 70, and in 1851 as 59, so this age is about right. |
