His profession is listed as Coast Guard on Daniel & Elizabeth's marriage record and 1841 census. He was listed as 45 in 1841, but this is not consistent with other records. There is a James Russel, c. 20 Aug 1790, and another c. 15 Jul 1798, both in Canterbury, both with parents James Russell & Catherine. James' daughter Elizabeth named one daughter Catherine, so this seems a possiblity, even though the dates don't match well. There is a death record in the GRO for James Russell, age 77, December quarter of 1868, in Guisborough (vol.9d p.340).
