Children appear in 1880 census; Newton 9, Nettie 7. 1870 census says born NY, but 1900, 1920 and 1930 census for Newton says Scotland, while the 1880, and 1910 census say NY. He is NOT the John McPherson who came to the US in 1865 from Scotland on the Hibernia. In 1880 he is living in Rome, NY, claiming to be 33 and single, though I'm pretty sure it is he. He lists himself as a tinner in both the 1870 and 1880 census, and a plumber in 1900. |
