They were married at the home of her parents. The last name was spelled Jane (without the 'y'), through the time of their marriage in 1894. Starting with the 1900 census, however, and from there on, it was spelled Jayne. John's uncle William had preceded him to the USA, and he had also changed the spelling of his name to Jayne. 1900 census shows John W., Elizabeth and Alice M. in Nanticoke, Luzerne Co. He came to US in 1891, at virtually the same time as the Swales. Their address in 1900 was 18 Chestnut Street, Nanticoke. The 1910 census shows David J. with the others, and one non-relative, James Marker, born in England, age 70. This James appears to have arrived in the USA around 1869/1870, with wife Jane. They are possibly the James Marker & Jane Thomas married Sep qtr 1864 in Bedwelty, Monmothshire. Jane was born in Wales, May 1841 (from 1900 census) and died between 1900 and 1910. James was born in England, Jan 1841 (from the 1900 census), and was a Sexton in 1900, a "Fire Boss" in 1880, and apparently a miner in 1870. In 1870, his wife's name is listed as Jennie, and their ages slightly different. There is also a Frank Marker, apparently from Wales, living nearby. In later years, they lived in Nanticoke, near the Jaynes. Nanticoke Death, 15 Mar 1913 At 5 O’clock this morning occurred the death of John W. Jayne at his home, corner State and Chestnut streets, Nanticoke. Deceased was 44 years of age. Besides his wife he is survived by two children, David and Alice, at home, also one brother, Stephen, of Olyphant and three sisters who live in England. He was a member of the Brotherhood of America lodge of this place. He was a devoted member of the Primitive Methodist Church. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
