Notes:
marriage performed by Rev. Andrew Roe
was living in Colosse, occupation Farmer, at enlistment.
pension application says lived in Colosse from 1864 to 1880
and 1880 to 1905 in Syracuse, and 1905 to present (1906) at Fernwood.
main cause of death, Lobar Pneumonia
Family history says Thomas "gave away" John
and Theodore after their mother died, and moved with some of the younger
children to Vermont.
age on 1850 census looks like 8, but must be 3.
1860 census shows born in Vermont, but this is an error, probably from
the census taker mistakenly copying things on the wrong line. You can
see on the census where some of the information for the next person (who
was born in Vermont), was scratched out on the line for Theodore. The
name also doesn't look like Gothier... more like Guther, but pretty
sure this is him. John is living nearby with Clark & Polly Nichols.
Note too that there is a David Nichols right next door. This is Clark
Nichols older brother.
1880 census incorrectly shows father from Canada, mother from France.
1900 census incorrectly shows father and mother both from France.
living in Syracuse in 1900, profession Stoker. Naturalized. Came to US 1852.
That date is wrong, though, since he was in Mexico, NY in 1850.
marriage date approximated from 1900 census.
In mid February 1905, he suffered a mild stroke, which left him unable to speak. He
was a Lieutenant at the Water Tower fire company No. 1 at the time.
Theodore, like John, served in the Civil War, but very late, both Company
C 121st Infantry and Company F 65th Infantry. Enlistment dates are
24 Mar 1865 (Parish) and 24 Jun 1865, and mustered out 17 Jul 1865.
death certificate lists (incorrectly) parents as: Peter Gothier and Constance Bouliu
interesting... Constance == Perpetue. Mother listed as from France.
