Notes:
In 1901, they lived one door down from Henry Simpson and family, also a blacksmith. I suppose they were aware that
they were first cousins (once removed).
He was President of the British Trades Union Congress, and traveled to the USA several times in this capacity, and later as a tourist.
There is a marriage record for an Alonso Beaumont Swales, March Quarter
1895, in Stockton, Durham (Vol. 10a, Pg. 99). His wife's name is apparently Elizabeth Burns,
but might be Elizabeth Mary Rudsdale.
visited the US onboard the Celtic, arriving on 10 Nov 1924, on a diplomatic visa
as a delegate to the American Federation of Labour, meeting in El Paso, Texas.
On 8 Oct 1935, he and his wife again came to the US on board the Laconia.
